I'm from Cameron, SC, in Calhoun County. I chose Newberry because a good-looking young man from Newberry brought me here.
My vision for Newberry is to see more industry county-side and more independent wholesale and retail businesses city-wide.
The advice I would give my 20-year old self is to think before you act on anything.
You would be surprised to know that I was a vocalist with big band and was on the road for three years.
I admire Billy Graham, the Evangelist.
I was born in Brevard, North Carolina, but my husband (Mike) and I moved here from outside Atlanta. Mike and I are Lutheran and have had a long affiliation with Newberry College. Our son Zeb and daughter-in-law Angela are Newberry College graduates; and when they made Newberry their home, we moved here when we retired to be near them and our grandchildren, Zoe and Zarek.
My vision for Newberry is that this County's historic past coupled with its present educational, recreational, and cultural opportunities will reap rewards through increased heritage tourism which will result in sustainable growth for all of Newberry County.
The advice I would give my 20-year old self is to take time to talk and to listen to those older family members whose stories are now lost.
You would be surprised to know that I was asked to "Twist" with Chubby Checker--at the Newberry Opera House, of course!
